Obituary

Miriam R. (Snell) Schafer, 84, formerly of Spring City, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2015, in the Parkhouse Providence Pointe, Royersford. She was the wife of the late Carl A. Schafer, who passed away in 1992. Born in White Haven, PA, she was the daughter of the late Henry R. and Carrie B. (Miller) Snell.

Mrs. Schafer was a homemaker, volunteered on the Ladies Auxiliary for Ridge Fire Company in Spring City and was an active member of St. Paul’s U.C.C. in Pottstown, where she had served as director of Education for Bible and Sunday Schools. Miriam had also been active with the Pottstown Cluster.

She was active with the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H and always supported the activities of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed camping and was an avid reader. For many years, her love of crocheting allowed her to crochet hats and blankets for newborns at Pottstown Hospital.

Mrs. Schafer is survived by her children, Carla A., wife of Robert Brodbeck, of Lower Pottsgrove, Daryl R., husband of Deborah Schafer, of Aaronsburg, and Darwin R., husband of Victoria Schafer, of Spring City; brother, Allen, husband of Connie Snell, of Hollister, MO; 6 granddaughters, Megan Reedell, Crystal Sterner, Erin Scheib, Nicole Schafer, Allison Schafer and Katherine Schafer; and 2 great grandchildren, Angela and Elyse Reedell. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda D., wife of Eric Scheib, of Phoenixville.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Grace and Franklin Streets, Pottstown, on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at 10:30 am. Officiating will be the Rev. Rebecca E. Brenner. Interment will follow in Brownback’s United Church of Christ Cemetery, Spring City. Friends will be received from 9:00-10:15 am at the Church. Memorial contributions may be made in Miriam’s name to St. Paul’s U.C.C., 927 N. Franklin Street, Pottstown, PA 19464. Arrangements are being handled by the Cattermole-Klotzbach Funeral Home.
