Obituary

Myrtle W. "Gammy" Coale, age 92, wife of the late Donald H. Widdicombe, of Phoenixville and the late J. Herbert Coale, of West Chester, PA went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 15, 2023. Born on April 24, 1931, on Valley View Farm in Charlestown Township, she was a daughter of the late Irvin and Miriam (Walton) Wise.

Mrs. Coale was a proud graduate of Phoenixville High School as she was the first in her family to accomplish this. She worked in the deli at Jerry's Market in Phoenixville prior to her time in the payroll department at Jones Motor Company in Spring City. More recently, from the 1980s until the early 2000s, if you got your chicken salad from the deli at Foresta's Market, chances were Myrtle was the one who made it.

Mrs. Coale was a faithful member of Grace Bible Church in Phoenixville. She played the piano during the weekly church service for many years and enjoyed attending the church's weekly lady's bible study group. She was a huge Philadelphia sports fan, especially of the Phillies and Flyers, even though her son worked for the Dallas STARS Ice Hockey Team. Mrs. Coale was an avid reader, having read regularly right up until her passing. She enjoyed word games and crossword puzzles, especially when she was completing them with her granddaughters. Mrs. Coale was a great cook and baker, known for her famous chocolate chip cookies.

In her final days, Mrs. Coale was tenderly cared for by the wonderful nurses, doctors and staff at Pottstown Hospital. The family would like to acknowledge and thank all of those at Pottstown Hospital for going above and beyond and helping them through this difficult time.

Mrs. Coale is survived by two daughters, Donna Cramer and Daphne Widdicombe, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As one of nine children, Myrtle is also survived by one sister, Joan Yerger who resides in Tennessee and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her two sons, Donald Widdicombe and Duane Widdicombe.

Services will be held privately at the family's discretion. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Grace Bible Church, 777 Starr Street, Phoenixville, PA 19460 or to the Dallas Stars Foundation, Memo: Don Widdicombe, 2601 Avenue of the Stars, Frisco, TX 75034. https://www.nhl.com/stars/community/donations
