Nancy Ruth (Hemminger) Bothwell, age 91, wife of the late Charles W. Bothwell, Jr., of Phoenixville, PA died Friday afternoon, June 10, 2011 in the Life Care Hospital of Chester County, West Chester, PA. She was also a Winter resident of Isla del Sol, St. Petersburg, FL. Born June 2, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Robert E. Hemminger and Florence A. (Magdeburg) Hemminger. She was a graduate of New Cumberland High School, New Cumberland, PA. and received her BA in education from Gettysburg College . At Gettysburg, Mrs. Bothwell was a member of the Delta Gamma fraternity. She continued her education at Ursinus College, Collegeville, PA and West Chester University. Mrs. Bothwell taught Social Studies and English at Phoenixville Area High School from 1964 until she retired in 1982. She was a member of The Horseshoe Trail Questors (Chapter 726), the Phoenixville Area Historical Society, the PA Retired Teachers Association, and an honorary member of the Phoenixville Hospital Auxiliary.
An avid golfer, Mrs. Bothwell was a member of Phoenixville Country Club (where she was one of the oldest female golfers), the Isla del Sol Yacht and Country Club in FL, and Meadow Brook Golf Club where she was one of the founding members of the Phoenixville Hospital Auxiliary Golf League. When not golfing, Mrs. Bothwell enjoyed reading, playing bridge and spending time with her family and friends.
Her love for fashion lead her to be the Fashion Commentator at the Junior Chamber of Commerce Dogwood Pageant for many years. She also commentated many fashion shows in Florida.
Mrs. Bothwell is survived by two children; Robert, husband of A. Margaret (Gautieri) Bothwell, of Willow Grove, PA, Patricia, wife of Bernard Hagan, Jr, of Phoenixville, two grandchildren; Jennifer (Bothwell) Polimer, wife of Benjamin Polimer of Franklin, MA, and Michael Bothwell, of Pittsburgh.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service at the Campbell-Ennis-Klotzbach Funeral Home, Inc., Main Street at Fifth Avenue, Phoenixville, PA on Saturday morning, June 18, 2011 at 11:00 AM. Friends will be received from 10:15 - 11:00 AM Saturday morning at the funeral home. Burial will be held privately in the Philadelphia Memorial Park, Frazer, PA.
