Nancy E. Rankin, age 82, of Phoenixville, PA, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024. Born on November 4, 1941 in Colombia, she was a daughter of the late Fidelina Sanjuan and Emilio Cardozo.
Nancy was the first of her family to immigrate to the United States in the early 1960s. Shortly thereafter, she helped bring her sisters to join her. She was a hard worker with an immense work ethic. Not only did she put her family first, but she liked to set the example for them. Nancy worked as a quality control inspector for Alfred Carton, and more recently, prior to retirement, as a banquet coordinator at the Marriott at Glenpointe in Teaneck, NJ and the Sheraton in Secaucus, NJ.
She was a faithful prayer warrior who could find space in her heart for anyone. Her greatest qualities that she exuded were beauty, elegance, and graciousness.
Prior to her arrival in the United States, Nancy was an accomplished athlete and women's basketball player, having been recruited by USA Basketball. Although she didn't accept USA Basketball's invitation, when she did arrive in the United States, she competed in several beauty pageants, having a very fashion-forward mindset even up to the end.
Little did Nancy also realize that, with her outgoing personality and her unique sense of humor, she was truly the life of any party. Nancy dreamed of winning the mega lottery and kept a mental list of every person she would share her fortune with. She had so much fun dreaming of what she would do for everyone, you would think she had actually won the big one! She enjoyed watching Spanish novellas, and often could be found grabbing a quick nap, even in the most inopportune times. She loved her dogs, Lexi who preceded her, and Lily. She loved to travel, having been especially fond of her trips to Jerusalem, Germany, and several other locations throughout Europe. She even spent some time living in France, where her daughter Maria was born.
Nancy was involved with outreach through several local churches. She was involved with prayer teams, care ministry, and coat drives. Her passion was not only for God, but the people around her.
Nancy is survived by one daughter, Maria Rankin; two sisters, Gladys Cuesta, wife of the late Victor Cuesta and Gloria Andino, wife of Edwin Andino; and nieces and nephews, Pamela Miller, Fidelina Cuesta, Edwin Andino, and Anthony Andino. She was preceded in death by three siblings, Miriam, wife of the late Bob Miller, Norrys Robinson, and Osvaldo Cardozo; and two nieces, Melissa Miller and Vivian Cuesta.
