Obituary

Paul Douglass Katzenbach passed away peacefully Friday, February 13 surrounded by his loving children at Phoenixville Hospital at the age of 71. Born January 13, 1944 in Dayton Ohio, he was one of eight children born to the late George and Mary Katzenbach. Paul moved his family to Pottstown in 1984 and continued to be a long time resident of Pottstown.

Paul was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved to cook in abundance for family and friends. Paul was a generous man who lived by simple means and found pleasure reminiscing and watching old movies. He was a big man with a bigger heart. A quiet man with striking blue eyes and callused hands from a life of hard work, he was a labor worker first at GHR Foundry, Dayton Ohio, later at Flaggs Foundry, Pottstown Pennsylvania. A true handy-man, there was nothing Paul couldn’t build or fix.

In his later years he found solace from a debilitating illness through artful paintings that often depicted his love and abiding faith in God. A faith that provided him with strength and comfort. He found great consolation in weekly phone conversations with both his brother and sister.

We will miss his laughter at a corny joke. His pacing and mumbling to himself. His thrill of playing the lottery and his dreams of how he would put his winnings to use, which probably would have included adding to his massive collection of movies. And definitely, would have included his family. Paul was a family man at heart and made sure his children never wanted or needed for anything. He would go without rather than to ever have let that happen. Simply put, Paul was a good man and has left a profound hole in the lives of those who knew and loved him.

Paul will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his three children, Renee Bailey wife of Ronald Bailey, Birdsboro, Nicole Katzenbach-Strohl wife of Cordell Strohl, Phoenixville, and Mark Katzenbach husband of Beth (Migala) Katzenbach, Exeter; grandchildren, Jarrod Bailey, Mitchell Bailey, Mckenna Ditty, Kian Ditty, and Devyn Katzenbach; siblings, George Katzenbach and Judy McDaniel; a great many nieces, nephews, cousins family and friends; including his enduring 52 year love and friendship with former wife and mother to his children, Phyllis Smith-Katzenbach, Pittsburgh. He was predeceased by siblings, Allie- Kathleen (Kay), Jaunita (Nita), Florence (Sis), Robert (Sonny), and Richard (Dick).

Memorial services will take place in Ohio where Paul will be laid to rest beside his parents as he wished.
