Obituary

Paul M. "Spike" Kistler, Jr., age 89, husband of the late Martha (Garner) Kistler, of Kimberton, PA, formerly a longtime resident of Red Fox Lane in Strafford, PA, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, April 19, 2026 at Phoenixville Hospital. Born on July 9, 1936 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Ida Belle (Carr) and Dr. Paul M. Kistler, Sr.

Paul was a graduate of Radnor High School, Class of '54. He honorably served in the United States Army from 1956 until 1958, having been stationed in France specializing in radio operations. Following his military service, he went on to receive his bachelor's degree in business administration from Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO.

Paul began his career in human resources working for The Arizona Bank. Upon relocating to Bethesda, MD, he continued his career at Union Trust Company in Washington, D.C. He then moved to Strafford, PA and continued in an HR role as Senior Vice President with numerous Philadelphia area banks including The Fidelity Bank, Philadelphia National Bank (PNB), CoreStates Financial, First Union, Wachovia, Wells Fargo and the Bryn Mawr Trust Company. He retired from the Bryn Mawr Trust Company in 2010. Throughout his early years in business, he was a member of the Wayne Rotary Club and served as their president for 1 year.

Following retirement, Paul continued to keep himself busy as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels out of Bryn Mawr Hospital for 9 years. He was a member of Wayne Presbyterian Church until his move to Kimberton in 2019 to be closer to family. He was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and looked forward to yearly fishing trips to Canada with his son, Ken, and summer vacations in LBI with family and friends.

Paul is survived by one son, Kenneth P., husband of Kim Kistler; three grandchildren, Kendra Davis, Michael, husband of Bailey Pitts, and Dale, husband of Jocelyn Kistler; one brother, John Charles "Jack", husband of Lynn Kistler; and a nephew and niece, Brett Kistler and Karen Kistler Moravek. Paul was preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Kistler Pitts; a brother, Douglas Carr Kistler; and three nephews, Doug Kistler, Greg Kistler and Scott Kistler.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service at the First Presbyterian Church of Phoenixville, 145 South Main Street, Phoenixville, PA on Friday, May 15, 2026 at 11:30 AM. Officiating will be Rev. Douglas Hagler. Burial will be held privately in the Washington Memorial Chapel Churchyard, Valley Forge, PA. Friends will be received from 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM on Friday in the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Philadelphia Zoo by visiting give.phillyzoo.org/donate.
