Peter David Schindler M.D., age 93, husband of the late Marianne G. (Leber) Schindler, of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, in Kendal at Longwood. Born on January 12, 1931, in Berlin, Germany, he was the son of the late Lotti (Sonntag) and George Schindler.

Peter immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of 5 years old. He honorably served in the United States Army before receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree from Lafayette College. Peter later returned to Switzerland and obtained his medical degree. While in Switzerland, he met Marianne, and it was love at first sight, which led to their marriage on March 21, 1959, in Zurich. Peter and Marianne later moved to the United States, where Peter would complete his residency.

Peter's devotion to helping people as a Child, Adolescent, and Family Psychiatrist was unparalleled. Known for his loving, compassionate nature, Peter had an extraordinary ability to connect with his patients. He transformed the lives of countless adolescents through his profound empathy and brilliant mind, serving as the head of psychiatry at AI Dupont Hospital in Wilmington for 30 years, as well as being on the staff and boards of multiple other hospitals and organizations, while maintaining a thriving private practice until his passing.

Peter was not only a healer but also a person who embraced life with a youthful spirit and cool demeanor. His appreciation for nature and time spent outdoors was evident in his love for sailing on the Chesapeake and around Nantucket Island. He lived life with a sense of adventure and a heart full of love.

Peter is survived by his children: Thomas K. Schindler, husband of Katy Wolfington, and Claudia Schindler Callahan; grandchildren: Devon, Trent, Finley, and Riley; and sister: Susan Shimelman.
