Philip F. Gormley, age 80, husband of Sara S. (Hobbs) Gormley, of Limerick, PA, formerly of the Mayfair section of Philadelphia, PA died suddenly at home on Tuesday morning, March 11th, 2008.? He was born in Philadelphia.?
Mr. Gormley volunteered for the U.S. Marine Corps at age 15.? He served during World War II, and the Korean War.? Sgt. Major Gormley retired as Marine Air Group Commander of Willow Grove Naval Air Station and was a reserve until 1987.? In 1979 he was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal.? Mr. Gormley worked for many years as an operating engineer, and was a member of the local 825 in New Jersey.? He was formerly a member of the Our Lady of Ransom Roman Catholic Church in Philadelphia.?
In addition to his wife of 52 years, Mr. Gormley is survived by; two daughters; Carol A. Cappelli, of Sellersville, Theresa A., wife of "Sparky" Healy, of Collegeville, four grandchildren; Ensign Richard H. (Shaina) Amos, Jr., Philip A. Cappelli, Haley-Theresa Cappelli, and Aidan F. Healy.? Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at the St. Eleanor Roman Catholic Church, 647 Locust Street, Collegeville, PA 19426 on Friday morning, March 14th, 2008 at 10:30AM.? Friends will be received from 9:00 - 10:15 AM, Friday morning at the Church.? Burial with full military honors will be held at the Arlington National Cemetery on Wednesday afternoon, March 26th, 2008 at 12:30PM.?
