Portia A. (Bearden) Ramsey, Retired Barkley TeacherPortia Adele (Bearden) Ramsey, 57, wife of Thomas R. Ramsey Jr., of Phoenixville, PA, passed away at her residence, peacefully after a long battle with lung cancer on Saturday morning August 9, 2008.?
Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of Christine A. (Benedetto) Bearden?? of Phoenixville, and the late Matthew Bearden Sr.? Mrs. Ramsey graduated from Phoenixville High School in 1969.? She continued her studies at West Chester? College graduating in 1973, and later earned her Masters Degree there as well.?Mrs. Ramsey truly loved her position as ?a second grade elementary teacher at Barkley Elementary School in Phoenixville from which she had just recently retired from after 35 years.? ???
Portia and her husband Tom are members of Bethel Baptist Church of Phoenixville.? Her life was full and complete with her family and her career in education.? Spending many years traveling with her husband and children, which were always family fun, yet educational, she was always a teacher. Reading to her children, swimming, vacationing at the Jersey Shore, the West Coast or more than 20 trips to Disney World from it's opening in 1972 to just recently - her family grew up with Disney!? This was just a testament to her love of teaching and children.? She also was a very dedicated daughter to her mom, who was the best friend any daughter could ever ask for.? They were both wonderful and very special support to each other.?
In addition to her husband of 35 years,? Mrs. Ramsey is survived by daughter Stephanie Renee who resides at home, son Thomas R. ``Trey'' III husband of Danielle M. Ramsey of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. mother Christine Bearden of Phoenixville,? Mother In-Law Sarah V. Mack, wife of the late Thomas Ramsey Sr., six brothers; Mathew Jr. husband of Annette Bearden of CA, ?Mark Bearden, of Phoenixville, Ralph husband of Cynthia Bearden, of Phoenixville,? Edward Sr. husband of Doreen Bearden, of Phoenixville, PA, Paul Sr. husband of Vanessa? Bearden of Landenburg, PA, and Thomas husband of Sharon Bearden of Phoenixville, PA, and her two grand-dogs, Magic and Coby.?
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at the Bethel Baptist Church,? 412 Fairview St., Phoenixville on Friday, August 15, at 11:00 A.M? Officiating will be the Rev. Nathan Coleman.? Interment will follow in the Morris Cemetery.? Friends may call from 9:00-11:00 A.M. at the Church.? Flowers are welcome or gifts may be made in her memory to the Portia A.
