R. Karlton Smith, age 95, husband of the late Miriam C. (Daywalt) Smith, of Upper Providence Township, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2024 in the Pottstown Hospital, Pottstown, PA. Born on July 1, 1928 in Oaks, PA, he was a son of the late Edna Mae (Famous) and Earl Grover Smith.

Mr. Smith was a graduate of Phoenixville High School, where he was a track star and held the 1/2 mile record for over 30 years. He furthered his education and received his bachelor's degree in mathematics from Ursinus College. He retired as a cost estimator for Synthane Corporation in Oaks.

Mr. Smith was a lifelong and faithful member of Green Tree Church of the Brethren, where he held several board positions and served on many committees throughout the years. He was very family-oriented, from coaching his son's youth sporting events during their childhood to never missing a game or event for his grandchildren.

Mr. Smith was also a well-known and accomplished oil painter, sought after by many for works of art. His pieces received several awards at different shows he visited. Mr. Smith was also an avid golf player, proudly playing into his 80s, until he could no longer walk the entire course; he never rode in a cart.

Mr. Smith is survived by three sons, Robert E., husband of Sally Smith of Dunedin, FL, Gary W., husband of Susan Smith of Marlton, NJ, and David A. Smith, husband of Terese Caucci of Boyertown, PA; five grandchildren, Kelli, Kristen, Kathryn, Ryan, and Declan; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; and two nieces, Kathy and Nancy. He was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Smith.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at Green Tree Church of the Brethren, 1078 Egypt Road, Oaks, PA 19456 on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at 11:00 AM. Officiating will be Pastor Kim Ream and Pastor Rod O'Donnell. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Friends will be received from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Green Tree Church of the Brethren at the address above.
