Richard A. Beard, Sr., 75, of Elverson, PA, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2015 in his residence. He was the husband of Shirley A. (Dell) Beard. Born in Spring City, he was a son of the late Grace (Latshaw) and Mahlon Wilmer Beard, Sr.

Richard was employed for over 20 years at the former Roberts Meat Packing in Kimberton and also for over 20 years as a mechanic for Allan Myers in Devault. He had formerly attended United Church of Christ, Spring City.

An outdoorsman, Richard enjoyed camping, trips to the mountains and was a member of the NRA. He was an avid NASCAR fan. Richard enjoyed dancing with his loving wife of 57 years, especially enjoying The Twist.

In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his children, Linda, wife of Edwin Boettger, Jr. of Spring City, Shirley Eckman of Phoenixville, and Richard A. Jr. husband of Joann Beard, of Pottstown, PA; two grandchildren, Jonathan Boettger and Madison Beard; two step-grandchildren, Brett and Neil Vanderslice; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by siblings, Grace Thompson, Ruth Ciabattoni, Jane Moore, Lois Thompson, Doris Ianelli, Reda Sypherd, Mahlon Wilmer Beard, Jr., and Doug Beard.

Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Richard's name to the Phoenixville Cancer Center, 824 Main Street, Phoenixville, PA 19460.
