Obituary

Richard "Rick" T. Drago, age 74, beloved husband of Lauren Ray (McSweeney) Drago, of Royersford, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at home. Born on June 25, 1950 in McKeesport, PA, he was a son of the late Richard and Elsie (Kochery) Drago.

Rick was a graduate of Westinghouse Memorial High School in Wilmerding, PA. He went on to receive his undergraduate degree, two Master's degrees in Industrial Sciences and Information Technology, and enroll into the Doctorate program at the University of Pittsburgh.

During his school and early years, Rick worked in the foundry pouring steel and casting molds at Westinghouse Air Brake Company. He went on to work internationally for both IBM and Vanguard. During his time with IBM, Rick was the team leader on countless projects, head of software development, and instrumental on the Intel Pentium 4 Processor project. He continued his career with Vanguard, where he worked as an international financial consultant and as a financial trainer until his retirement in 2016.

Rick was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hiking, camping, birdwatching and target shooting with his son. He was an enthusiastic supporter of Pittsburgh sports, especially his Steelers. He was the quintessential example of what it meant to be from Pittsburgh, some would even say he had black and gold flowing through his veins. He was a music lover, who could literally name a song quicker than any computer algorithm. Most of all, Rick cherished the time he spent with his family and lifelong best friends.

In addition to his wife, Rick is survived by one son, John R. Drago, companion of Caitie King; one sister, Pamela, wife of James Karl and their sons, Justin and Lake; cousin, Dennis Kenyon; brothers and sisters-in-law, John McSweeney, Diane McSweeney, Marianne McSweeney, and Robert McSweeney; many additional nieces and nephews; and many close family and friends in the Pittsburgh area. He was preceded in death by his in-laws, John J. and Betty Ray McSweeney.
