Richard Barclay Kemmerer, Sr., age 91, husband of the late Jean D. (Thren) Kemmerer, of Royersford, PA, passed away on Friday, December 25, 2020 in Pottstown Hospital - Tower Health. Born on October 18, 1929 in Philadelphia, PA, he was a son of the late Lloyd and Edna (Williams) Kemmerer.
Mr. Kemmerer was a graduate of Schwenksville High School, and would go on to further his education at the Williamson School of Trade, the Pennsylvania State Police Academy, and Penn State University. He served in the United States Coast Guard, obtained his Private Pilot's license, and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Royersford.
Mr. Kemmerer served as the first Chief of Police for the Limerick Township Police Department beginning in 1964. During that time, he also worked for Superior Tube for 44 years, from which he retired as Plant Superintendent in 1991. As an avid camper, and following his official retirement, he continued to work for several local RV dealerships as a salesman.
Mr. Kemmerer enjoyed visiting lighthouses, and played semi-professional football for the Perkiomen Indians and the Wildwood Owls. He was a member of the FOP, the VFW, and the American Legion in Spring City.
Mr. Kemmerer is survived by three children, Kathleen, wife of the late Richard Burger of Mountain Home, AR, Richard B. Kemmerer, Jr. of Royersford, PA, and Todd M., husband of Sheryl Kemmerer of Royersford, PA; twelve grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and six nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Karen Kemmerer, and two siblings, Todd W. Kemmerer and Janice Betten.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass in the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Lewis Road at Walnut Street, Royersford, PA on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at 10:30 am.
