Obituary

Richard P. Lyden, 89, of Kimberton, passed away on February 14, 2015, his birthday, at Phoenixville Hospital. He was the husband of Martha J. (Kirchhof) Lyden, with whom he shared sixty years of marriage.

Richard was born in Portland, Maine to the late John and Ada Lyden. He is a veteran of the United States Navy, attended the University of Maine and was a graduate of Wilson Trade School with a degree in laboratory and x-ray technology. Mr. Lyden was retired from Phoenixville Hospital after 41 years of service, many of those years as the hospital’s laboratory director.

Richard was a loving husband and father of four children and eight grand-children. He loved spending time with family and his grandchildren and he spent many happy years traveling with his wife, woodworking, painting and creating stain glass.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Patricia Galvin (Frank) of Collegeville; Joanne O’Brien (Joseph) of West Chester; Timothy Lyden (Andrea) of Dillsburg; and David Lyden (Jacqueline) of East Nantmeal and his grandchildren: Brian Galvin (Erika) of Hershey; Sean Galvin (Lisa McMillen) of Arlington, VA; Kyle Galvin (Pattie Grant) of Haverford; Kelly O’Brien (Dan Moore) of West Chester; John O’Brien of West Chester; Jeffrey O’Brien of West Chester; Patrick Lyden of Dillsburg; Corey Lyden of Dillsburg; and great grandson Henry Galvin of Hershey.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 11:00 am at St. Basil the Great Church, 2300 Kimberton Road, Kimberton, PA. Visitations will be on Wednesday evening at Cattermole-Klotzbach Funeral Home, 600 Washington Street, Royersford, PA from 6-7:30 PM and on Thursday at the church from 10:00 - 10:45 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to St. Mary’s Franciscan Shelter, 209 Emmett Street, Phoenixville, PA 19460 or to St. Basil the Great Church, 2300 Kimberton Road, Kimberton, PA 19442.
