Richard Harding Mullen (Dick), 93, of Malvern passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2020. Born on November 27,1926 in Wayne PA, he was the son of Ethel (Lane) Mullen and James Mullen.

Dick graduated from Lower Merion High School, going on to serve in the U.S. Navy, before graduating from the University of Alabama with a degree in Business. He met his love of 60 years, L. Louise (Lowery) Mullen, in her native state of Virginia. They were married in November 1953 in Newport News, VA. Dick and Louise raised their two daughters in Manlius, NY.

Dick founded a business in nearby Syracuse, Mullen Industrial Handling. During their time in New York, he became active in various social initiatives to support the work of the Federation of Southern Cooperatives. His specific interest was in the work being done by Heifer Project International to invest in farmers to establish a secure and ongoing source of income. After selling his business, Dick and Louise relocated to Pennsylvania. Here they enjoyed living in the countryside of Chester County, before finally settling in Malvern, PA.

Dick was a loving grandfather who enjoyed all the nuances and interests of his four grandchildren who loved him very much. They will remember him for his big laugh, his subtle coaching techniques, the M&M's he always kept in his pocket, his sage advice and his love of the natural world. Through all areas of life, be it business, golfing, volunteer pursuits or being a good neighbor, Dick made lasting friendships.

Dick is survived by his daughters, Amy Cousins and Beth Richey, his sons-in-law John Cousins and Brough Richey, and his grandchildren Hannah (Richey) Vandenbergh, Benjamin Richey, Emma Cousins and Sam Cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise.
