Obituary

Richard H. Taylor, age 87, husband of Diana K. (Krewett) Taylor, a 53 year resident of Phoenixville, PA, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 in the Seasons Hospice, Phoenixville. Born on October 25, 1931 in Minot, North Dakota, he was a son of the late Paul K. and Gladys (Holmes) Taylor.

Mr. Taylor was born in North Dakota, then had moved to Ohio. He then relocated to Haddon Heights, NJ, where he met Diana and graduated high school. He and Diana were married in Laurel Springs, NJ. Mr. Taylor served in the National Guard from 1950-1953. He attended Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, and worked as a Fire Protection Engineer for Automatic Sprinkler Corporation of America, retiring in 1992. In his retirement, he worked and volunteered for the Phoenixville Library, and was a member of the Phoenixville Area YMCA for over 40 years. An early riser, he would typically arrive most mornings to the YMCA before they opened. Mr. Taylor enjoyed black and white nature photography, and had his own dark room in his home. He enjoyed swimming, crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy, and tending to his large vegetable garden. He was a runner, competing in several 5K and 10K races. He loved to travel, biking in New Zealand for several weeks in 1987. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed camping and canoeing with his wife. Mr. Taylor was an active member of the Express Church in Phoenixville, where he found great meaning and support over the past several years. He was always punctual and on time, a characteristic he passed along to his children and family.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Taylor is survived by three children, Denise P., wife of Joseph Tucker of Philadelphia, PA, Stephen P., husband of Holly Taylor of Lyons, CO, and Susan P., wife of Anthony Fanelli of Pleasanton, CA; five grandchildren, Julian, husband of Michelle Tucker, Jacob Taylor, Zoe Taylor, Andrea Fanelli, and Christina Fanelli; two siblings, Robert, husband of Kathro Taylor of Wisconsin and Florida and Martha Hostler of Ashland, OH; one niece and five nephews. Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Jones, and one niece.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the his inurnment at the Columbarium Garden at St. John's, 355 St. John's Circle, Phoenixville, PA 19460 on Monday, January 7, 2019 at 11:00 AM. Officiating will be Pastor Justin M. Chapman. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Phoenixville Area YMCA, 400 E. Pothouse Road, Phoenixville, PA 19460, to the Phoenixville Area Public Library, 183 Second Avenue, Phoenixville, PA 19460, or to the Express Church, 160 E. Pothouse Road, Phoenixville, PA 19460.
