Robert M. Baker's Obituary
Robert M. Baker, 87, husband of Diana D. (Zacharchuk) Baker, of Phoenixville, passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 in Seasons Hospice. Born on April 7, 1932 in Altoona, PA, he was a son of the late Catherine M. (Bishop) and Ross L. Baker.
Bob served in the United States Army and had been stationed at Fort Knox, Ky and in France. He was a structural steel draftsman by profession. He loved all things outdoors. He spent many hours gardening, hiking, building and painting bird houses and building campfires for family hot dog and marshmallow roasts. He also enjoyed traveling by car, including every state up and down the East coast and Canada. A huge NASCAR fan, Bob visited many of the tracks. Bob loved baseball and was an avid Phillies fan, dating back to Shibe Park.
Family was most important to Bob. For the last ten years, he had been working on a family genealogy book. He spent countless hours collecting photos and in the last few years tirelessly typing everything with one finger due to his Parkinson's disease.
In addition to his loving wife of 69 years, Mr Baker is survived by three daughters: Cathy A., wife of Wayne Breden, of Phoenixville, PA, Patricia J. Adams, of Rochester, NH and Jane E. Baker, of Weare, NH; nine grandchildren: Kristin, Carly, Evan, Joelle, Joe, Catherine Laurinda, Clarence and Emmy; eleven great grandchildren: Ainsley, Robbie,Tallis, Lena, Olivia, Ben, Joey, Charlotte, Winnie, Lillian and Cassandra; two sisters: Doris Grossman, of Altoona and Jean Moore of Macungie. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol D. Zeleski and a brother Bill Baker.
A celebration of his life will be announced by family in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bob's name to The National Museum of the United States Army, PO box 96281, Washington DC 20090-6281, www.ArmyHistory.org/donate.
