Robert J. Megay, 77, of East Coventry, died on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. He was the husband of Constance E. (Eselby) Megay.

Born in Norristown, he was a son of the late John and Alice (Dannaker) Megay. He was a graduate of Norristown High School, where he was also a member of its championship swim team. Bob was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He served with the 30th Naval Construction Regiment, Battalion 11, where he received commendation for outstanding utility work.

He was a master plumber and worked for several years as a member of Local #420 Pipefitters Union. Mr. Megay also served as Chairman of East Coventry Twp. Board of Supervisors for twenty years. He was also a former chairman of the Republican Committee for East Coventry and Chester County respectively.

Bob was a member of Brownback's United Church of Christ, where he sang in the choir. He also volunteered with the fire-police of the Ridge Fire Company. He was an avid swimmer, gardener and hunter. He took many trips out west to hunt big game. Bob also went on mission trips with Royersford Baptist Church, helping communities rebuild after devastating storms. While raising his family, he also was a volunteer coach with the Norchester Red Knights Football Club.

In addition to his wife of almost 52 years, he is survived by his children: Darlene Leighton and husband Richard, of East Coventry, Keith Megay and wife Gina, of Mantua, NJ and Connie Cole and husband Scott, of Pottstown, brothers: J.R. Megay, of British Columbia and Raymond Megay and wife Betty, of Spring City; sisters: Alice Eselby, of Royersford and Julia Kummerer and husband Kenneth, of Pottstown, 9 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

His funeral service will be held at Brownback's United Church of Christ, 640 Ridge Rd., Spring City, PA 19475 on Friday, January 9, 2009 at 11:00 AM. Friends will be received from 9:30 to 11 AM in the church. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
