Obituary

Robert Earl Mooney, age 84, husband of 55 years to Bette (Holman) Mooney, of West Chester, PA, formerly of Reading and Douglassville, PA, passed away on Friday, January 4, 2019, in the Hickman Friends Senior Community of West Chester. Born October 30, 1934, in Phoenixville, PA, he was son of the late Ronald E. and Pearl (Fitzcharles) Mooney.

Mr. Mooney graduated from Spring City High School and served in the U.S. Army, attaining rank of corporal at Fort Sill, OK.
A supervisor of the metals division of the West Pharmaceuticals Co., Phoenixville, for the better part of his 43-year career there, he became a quality assurance engineer when the local branch moved to Lionville, PA.

He was a founding member of the West Employees Federal Credit Union and previously served on Spring City Borough Council. An avid horseman in his youth, he was a former member of the Kimberton Fox Hunt Club and the Phoenixville Rotary and Lions Clubs. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Douglassville.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Mooney is survived by two sons, Douglas B., husband of Mary Mooney, of Royersford, PA, and Andrew T., husband of Bonnie Mooney, of West Chester; three grandchildren, Mary Kate, Colin P., and Erin Q. Mooney, and one step-grandson, Xander Simmons. He was preceded in death by one son, Michael S. Mooney, and one sister, Pearl B. Mooney.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 1312 Old Swede Road, Douglassville, on Monday, January 14, 2019, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Steven Simpson officiating. Burial will be held privately. Friends will be received from 10-11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Association, 399 Market Street, Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106.
