Obituary

Russell W. Good, 93, husband of the late Frances “Betty” (Barlow) Good, of Phoenixville, PA, died peacefully on March 28, 2022, while in hospice care at Phoenixville Hospital. A resident of Phoenixville for 70 years, he was born in Upper Providence, PA on Sept. 24, 1928, to Russell L. Good and Ida (Shaner) Good.

A member of the Royersford High School class of 1946, Russell played football, baseball, and tennis. He was also a member of the high school marching band, in which he played the drums. In addition, Russell played trumpet in a quartet with his brother.

Russell was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Spring City, where he sang in the choir and once served as a member of church council.

After high school, Russell was employed as a mechanic at Bauer’s and Sons Garage on 2nd Avenue in Royersford. He worked briefly at the Royersford Foundry, then at Diamond Glass Works. After his time at Diamond Glass, Russell became a member of the Spring City/Royersford business community as the owner of Good Blind Service. At the end of his career, Russell worked for 10 years as a toll collector on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. His “retirement” job was as a jack-of-all trades at RiteAid in Phoenixville.

Russell had a brush with death early in his life, after being seriously injured in a car accident at age 19. His most severe injuries were multiple fractures of both legs, and a broken arm. It was during his time as a patient at Phoenixville Hospital that he met Betty, his wife of 55 years; she was his nurse.

Russell loved being outdoors, whether planting a full vegetable garden or nurturing roses in his flower beds. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and trips to the Pocono Mountains.

He is survived by his son, Robert Good and wife Ann (Cigas) Good, and his daughter, Kathleen Knaub; grandson Samuel Knaub and granddaughter Cecilia Knaub; and great-grandchildren Ryenn Sovich, Ethan Good, and Catherin Good. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his brother, Harold Good; his grandson, Christopher Good; and a son-in-law, James Knaub.
