Ruth Mildred Smith, 85, of South Coventry, passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at home surrounded by her family. She was the wife of Lawrence E. Smith, to whom she was married to in 1944.

She was born in Berwyn to the late William D. and May (Oliphant) McAfee. She attended Downingtown High School. Ruth was a housekeeper for the late Justice Owen J. Roberts, a teacher's aide for eighteen years at Warwick Elementary and Owen J. Roberts High School and a cafeteria worker at Pennhurst State Hospital.

Ruth was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Chester Springs, PA where she also served as a sexton. She will be remembered as the "Block Mom" of her day, a Brownie Troop Leader and singing in the kitchen making cherry and blueberry crumb pies. She loved bingo and fishing, but most of all, her family and grandchildren.

In addition to her husband of sixty-six years, she is survived by two daughters: Miriam, wife of William Madden Jr., of Harmonyville and R. Louise, wife of James Fitch, of Bucktown; one son: Ronald E. Smith, of Addison, TX; grandchildren: Tammy and Bucky Finnegan, of Townsend, DE, Mark and Natasha Fitch, of Bucktown, and Brett Madden, of Pittsburgh; great-grandchildren: Connor and Gretchen Fitch and Brittney abnd P.J. Finnegan; and great-great granddaughter Kaylee Jade Finnegan; dear friends: Ruth Pennypacker and Susan Diehl. She was predeceased by sisters: Lillian Hannum and Ida Seiter.

Her funeral service will be held on Monday, January 24, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Cattermole-Klotzbach Funeral Home, 600 Washington St., Royersford, PA. Officiating will be Rev. John C. Kolle. Calling time is from 9:30-10:30 AM. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
