Obituary

Ruth G. Velasquez, age 85, of Royersford, PA, passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at home. Born on August 31, 1939 in Los Angeles, CA, she was a daughter of the late Roberto and Soledad (Rodriguez) Gonzalez.

Ruth graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Los Angeles, CA. She served as a pianist at Emmanuel Baptist Church in El Sereno until she moved to El Salvador, where she served as a pianist for the First Baptist Church of San Salvador as well as for the National Children's Choir. Once back in the United States, she learned how to play the organ and shared her musical abilities with several churches and American Baptist National Conferences throughout the years. In addition, she enjoyed serving the American Baptist Women's Ministries in various roles for much of her life.

Ruth began her professional career at age 17 as a secretary for the City of Los Angeles Traffic Department and later for the Spanish American Seminary in East Los Angeles, and at Colegio Bautista de San Salvador, El Salvador. Upon her return to the United States, she worked as an Administrative Assistant for the American Baptist Churches in King of Prussia, PA. She had attended Royersford Baptist Church.

Ruth enjoyed playing the piano, reading, completing crossword puzzles, and tending to her garden, especially her roses. She liked to travel to the beach, and she was an avid fan of the Phillies and Eagles and she enjoyed watching tennis and golf. Most of all, however, she cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren. Known for her big heart, her extreme wittiness and one-liners she will surely be missed.

Ruth is survived by three children, Robert Velasquez, and his fiance Sabina Mack, Ruth Elena Velasquez, and Roger Velasquez and his wife Marcia; three grandchildren, Shayna Whitelock and her husband Josh, Kayla Wacey and her husband Peter, and Brandon Velasquez and his wife Zoe; two sisters, Rosa Velderrain and Debbie Drown and her husband Charlie; and nephews Armand Velderrain, Jeremy Beauchamp, Patrick Drown; and niece Rochelle Burgess.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service at Cattermole-Klotzbach Funeral Home, 600 Washington Street, Royersford, PA on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at 11:00 AM. Officiating will be Rev. Reid Trulson. Burial will follow in the Parkerford Baptist Church Cemetery, Spring City, PA.
