Obituary

Sam Barkley, 75, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2009. Born November 9, 1933, to Samuel K. Barkley Sr., and Emma E. (Powers) Barkley, Phoenixville and Chester County had been Sam's roots and residence all of his life. Since November 21, 1998, he had been married to his wife, Merle (Crosscombe) Barkley.

Sam owned and operated Barkley Dental Laboratory in Pottstown for many years. Sam had many loves: his family, reading good books, traveling (including Australia and Israel), assistant scout master of Troop 17, time spent "on the water," having his own sailing vessel for a number of years. Sam was also an active member of Calvary Bible Church in Phoenixville, PA. For the last ten years, he ministered to and with the youth as well as serving on the missions committee and being usher for the church services. Sam particularly enjoyed the worship services; praising his Lord was at the core of his being.

Sam and Merle each had children by previous marriage. Sam's children are: his son, Kurt Barkley, (of New York City), and his daughter, Anne; Sam's daughter Betsy, married to Bill Hartey, (of Newtown, Bucks County) and Betsy's children: Samantha and Gerard DiPippo. Merle's son, David Crosscombe (Philadelphia) and his wife Joyce and their children: Saiyeh, Melanie, Emma and Tony; Merle's daughter, Lisa and her husband Peter Sibley (Australia) and their children: Fletcher and Pierson.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, February 21st at Calvary Bible Church, 110 Valley Park Road, Phoenixville, PA 19460. In lieu of flowers, friends and loved ones are asked to kindly consider giving to "Youth Ministry" of Calvary Bible Church.
