Obituary

Samuel M. Thompson, age 100, husband of the late Gladys V. (Hedrick) Thompson, of Royersford, PA, passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 in Parkhouse Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born on December 8, 1914 in Phoenixville, PA, he was a son of the late Leslie and Sarah (Wadsworth) Thompson.

Mr. Thompson was a member of the Royersford Baptist Church. He worked as a tire builder and in maintenance for the B.F. Goodrich plant in Oaks, as a janitor for the Spring-Ford School District, and as a part-time police officer in Royersford. He served in the Phoenixville National Guard, 107th Field Artillery, before joining the U.S. Army 982nd Signal Company during World War II. Mr. Thompson was part of four invasions, sitting at the same table as General Eisenhower and General Patton during D-Day. He was moved from the 982nd Signal Company to Gen. Patton's 7th Army, and eventually served under Eisenhower, Patton, Bradley, and Clark. He was also good friends with Ernie Pyle, an award winning war journalist. A 32nd degree Mason, Mr. Thompson was a member of the Spring-Ford Lodge #553, the Rajah Shriner's Temple in Reading . He was a life member of the American Legion Post 602, the Montgomery County Fire Police Association, the Liberty Steam Fire Company, the Humane Fire Company, and was a silver anniversary member of Friendship Fire Company.

Mr. Thompson is survived by two Daughters, Peggy J., wife of Robert Brown of Bensalem, PA and Sheryl A., wife of Ted Harbison of Limerick, PA; one sister, Ruth Bossert of Royersford, PA; three grandchildren, Christopher, husband of Barbara Brown, Evan Harbison and Megan Harbison; and two great-grandsons, Joshua and Matthew Brown.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at Cattermole - Klotzbach Funeral Home, 600 Washington Street, Royersford, Pennsylvania on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 12:00 pm. Officiating will be Rev. Karen Selig. Burial will be held in the Limerick Garden of Memories, Royersford, Pennsylvania. Friends will be received from 10:30 am - 11:45 am Saturday at the funeral home, with a Masonic Service taking place at 11:45 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Montgomery County SPCA, 19 E. Ridge Pike, P.O. Box 222, Conshohocken, PA 19428.
