Uldene Mongold Duke, 84, of Phoenixville, PA, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2015 at Manatawny Manor. She was the widow of John W. “Jack” Duke, who died in 2014.
She was born in Masonville, WV to the late Luther W. and Eulalia May (Sites) Mongold. Uldene grew up in Maysville, WV, and was a graduate of Petersburg High School, Petersburg, WV, where she was the captain of the womens’ basketball team and the editor of the school newspaper. She was employed as an office manager.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School, and was a member of the Altar Guild and Fetters Sunday School Class. Uldene was also a talented musician. She played guitar with a group and recorded sessions for a weekly broadcast. She shared her musical talent with family and friends often presenting programs at church and in the community.
Uldene was an accomplished seamstress and dressmaker and a former Girl Scout leader.
She is survived by her children: Linda K. Landis, of Phoenixville, PA; Larry C. Landis, husband of Debbie Landis, of Howell, NJ; two brothers: Udell Mongold, of Kimberton, PA and Sango Mongold, of Keyser, WV; three grandchildren: Ashlee, Matthew and Taylor Landis; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Delro Mongold and Philo Mongold.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2015 from 9-10:45 AM in the Fireside Room of St. John’s Lutheran Church, 355 St. John’s Circle, Phoenixville, PA 19460. A service will follow at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dr. Cynthia L. Krommes officiating. Burial will be in Morris Cemetery.
