Obituary

Ulrich A. Rimrott, age 91, of Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2020. Born on October 1, 1928 in Halle, Germany, he was the son of the late Margarete Ottilie Henriette (Hofmeister) and Ernst Georg Johannes Rimrott.

Ulrich was raised in Germany. He graduated from The Technische Universität Darmstadt where he received a Diplom Ingenieur in Maschinenbau. He was a member of The Corps Hassia Fraternity and participated in fencing as a rite of passage. He followed his brother to the United States in 1957 to attend The Pennsylvania State University where he received a master's degree in mechanical engineering in 1959. He was a member of The Sigma Xi Honor Society. He had been employed as a mechanical engineer at SKF Industries for most of his career.

In 1963, Ulrich was married in Germany and immigrated to the United States where he proudly became a United States Citizen. He and his wife raised 4 children in his beloved home on Valley Forge Mountain where he lived for 50 years. Ulrich was a longtime member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Phoenixville YMCA, and the King of Prussia Rotary Club, where he was very active for over 5 decades as their oldest and longest standing member. He played tennis, was an avid skier until the age of 85 and loved taking family camping trips to Assateague Island in his VW bus. Ulrich was an enthusiastic world traveler and enjoyed countless trips to many countries in his retirement years. He also took great pleasure in teaching his grandsons how to play his favorite game, Schach/Chess.

Ulrich is survived by his children: daughter Elke Rimrott, of Collegeville; son Dirk, husband of Janet Rimrott, of Phoenixville; son Ralf, husband of Maria Rimrott, of Bahia, Brasil; and daughter Britta, wife of Leonard Pekofsky, of Phoenixville. He is also survived by grandsons Tyler, Zachary and Lucas Pekofsky; step-grandchildren Louise Bianconi and Danielle Jackson; former spouse Heide Boldt-Diefenderfer; longtime companion Gudrun Lettau; and many nieces and nephews in Germany, Canada and Hong Kong. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Friedrich Rimrott, PhD, Anne-Maria Kurant and Hans Rimrott, PhD.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Ulrich's memorial service on Monday, August 3, 2020 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 355 St. John's Circle, Phoenixville. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Cynthia L. Krommes. Inurnment will follow in the St. John's Lutheran Church Columbarium. Friends will be received from 9:00-10:15. Service at 10:30 at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ulrich's name to Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 62, Valley Forge, PA 19481, www.valleyforgefireco.com/donate.html.
