Obituary

Violet M. (Acosta) Mazzeo, age 86, of Phoenixville,? passed away on Friday morning at Woodbridge Assisted Living Center.? She was the wife of the late Edward Mazzeo.?
Born in Lima, Peru, she was a daughter of the late Rafael and Mercedes (Maldonado) Acosta. After her high school education in Peru, she attended Smith College, Northampton, MA for one year.? In 1946, she emigrated to the United States, where she resided ever since.?
Her employmers included the Phoenixville YMCA where she was a secretary and Spanish teacher, C. Raymond Davis, Kimberton, PA and The American Baptist Convention, Valley Forge, PA.? She worked there for nineteen years, retiring as Payroll Manager.?
Violet was a member of St. John's UCC, the 59er's Club and the Birthday Club.? She volunteered at Phoenixville Hospital and worked polls for elections.? She loved violets, gardening, baking, dancing, dogs and going to Ocean City, NJ.?
She is survived by daughter, Bonnie Lewis Merkel and her husband Eugene Paul, of Charleston, S.C.; son, Allan M. Lewis, of Takoma Park, MD; grandson, Curtis A. Mack, of Charleston, S.C.; sisters Rosa Garcia Rossell and Ines A. Ferguson, both of Lima, Peru, and May C. Bingham, of Atlanta, GA.?
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at St. John's UCC, 315 Gay Street, Phoenixville, PA.? Calling time is from 10 to 11:00 AM.? Burial will be in Morris Cemetery.? In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, FL. #17, Chicago, IL or the Pennsylvania S.P.C.A., 350 E. Erie Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19134??
