Wayne S. Hunter, age 62, husband of Debra K. (Williams) Hunter of Spring City, Pennsylvania, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023 in the Phoenixville Hospital. Born on December 23, 1960, in Pottstown, he was a son of the late Erma (Nettles) and Theodore Hunter.

Wayne was a graduate of Owen J. Roberts High School, where he wore #33 and played fullback for the varsity football team. He had been employed as a molder in the foundry at Spring City Electrical Manufacturing for close to 40 years.

If Wayne wasn't coaching or umpiring his sons' youth sports teams when they were young he was an involved sports father that never missed a game. He was an avid hunter, and although he enjoyed archery hunting alone, he did enjoy rifle and shotgun hunting with his sons in French Creek. He also made sure that his sons made it to Knoebels every year.

Wayne had an "honorary brother" James Smith, with whom he did everything, including hunting and spending time upstate at the cabin. Wayne enjoyed time spent in the mountains whether he was hunting or not.

His love of football continued throughout his life, as he was an avid fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Philadelphia Eagles. Wayne enjoyed passionately arguing with his son Kyle about sports, especially Ohio State and Nebraska football, but they could always agree over their dislike for Penn State Football.

A natural, no matter if it was his first try, Wayne was good at everything he attempted. He was especially competitive and extremely likeably, even if he did enjoy taunting others in a playful way.

No one was ever a stranger to Wayne, although he could not remember their names. He was considered the "papabear" to his sons' friends, always making sure they were taken care of and fed. He was their "old man" often viewed much like a surrogate father.

Sarcastic and always ready with a comeback, Wayne was known to say, "If I wasn't giving you crap, I don't love you." Most important to Wayne though was the love he had for his family. There was nothing he wouldn't do for his them, especially the love he had for his granddaughter. He lived for his wife and she lived for him.

In addition to his loving wife of 35 years, Wayne is survived by sons: Wayne S. Hunter Jr. and Cody Hunter; granddaughter: Elliana K. Hunter; and his faithful companion: Luka. He was preceded in death by a son: Kyle J. Hunter; and grandson: Everett Hunter.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service on Friday, August 11, 2023 at 12:00 PM at the Cattermole-Klotzbach Funeral Home, 600 Washington Street, Royersford. Officiating will be Pastor Bill Beck. Friends will be received from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM at the funeral home. For those attending, you are asked to dress in casual or business casual attire, but please, no suits.
