William “Bill” E. Smith

William “Bill” E. Smith, age 82, of Chester Springs, PA, passed away on Friday, February 12, 2021.
He was sleeping peacefully in his dreams and decided to stay.

Born in West Chester, PA, Bill was the son of the late John and Rita (Zuill) Smith. He and his wife, Lila A. Smith, with whom he had shared 44 years of marriage, at the time of her passing in 2015, lived in Chester Springs most of their lives. Bill is survived by his two sons, Erle and his wife Amanda Smith of Millersville, Brian Smith of Chester Springs, granddaughter Sadie Mae, “adopted” granddaughters Alessia Buoso and Zoe Murphy; his siblings Rita Wesler, Mildred Gerringer and Ronald Smith; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Smith and his sisters, Flora Trego, Doris Gottier and Shirley Harp.

Bill graduated in 1958 from Downingtown High School, served in the National Guard and was employed by Transco Pipeline where he worked for 37 years until his retirement in 1997. Bill was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Chester Springs and the Chester Valley Grange 1496 in Devault, PA. He was an avid gardener, baker, and handyman. In addition, he was involved in many community organizations. But most of all he enjoyed spending as much time as he could with his loving wife. You would never find them without one another. Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather and dear friend to all. He will be missed by many.

A memorial service will be held in the spring time at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 1239 Clover Mill Road, Chester Springs, PA 19425. Burial will take place privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the St. Peter's Lutheran Church at the above address.
