William D. Holden, age 92, husband of Margaret N. (Bird) Holden, of Phoenixville, PA, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2016 in the Manatawny Manor. Born on February 19, 1924 in Philadelphia, PA, he was a son of the late Luke and Eva (Souder) Holden.
A veteran, Mr. Holden served for the U.S. Army during World War II and fought at the battle of Normandy. He worked as an electronics technician for Western Electric for more than 35 years. He was a member of the Phoenixville YMCA, and was an avid jogger, running daily in Valley Forge Park. He was a Phillies and Eagles fan, and could often be found supporting PECO and PMYC sports, where he was affectionately known as the "Candy Man", "Pop", and "Duke". Mr. Holden liked to tinker with cars, engines, and his tractor, and enjoyed working on his yard. Above all else, he loved his family, and cherished the time he spent with them during the Summers at Long Beach Island.
Mr. Holden is survived by four children, David W. (Peggy) Holden of Royersford, PA, Shireen M. (Craig) Holden-Gabron of Columbia, SC, William R. (Ruth) Holden of Royersford, PA, and Doreen L. (Mark) Hartshaw of Phoenixville, PA; one sister, Millicent Turner of Cape Coral, FL; five grandchildren, Lynne (Mike), Brian (Laura), Erin (Mike), Kelly (Kevin), and Ryan; five great-grandchildren, Nickolas, Olivia, Cameron, Benjamin, and Matthew; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five siblings, and one grandson, Billy.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at the Campbell-Ennis-Klotzbach Funeral Home, Inc, 610 South Main Street, Phoenixville, PA on Friday, December 23, 2016 at 10:00 am. Burial will be held in the Limerick Garden of Memories, Limerick, PA. Friends will be received from 9:00 am - 10:00 am Friday at the funeral home.
