NETTLES, William Ronald
Ron Nettles of Royersford, PA, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 15, 2009. He was 80 years of age. Ron, as he was affectionately known to family and friends, was born and lived in Royersford his entire life.
He graduated from Royersford High School and served in the US Army from 1950-51, where he was stationed in Germany. He was a banker for the National Bank of Royersford and Industrial Valley Bank for 39 years having retired as Assistant Vice President. An active member of the community, Ron was the Mayor of Royersford for 14 years; the Treasurer of the Royersford Area Community Chest, Royersford Free Public Library, Royersford Police Pension Fund, Buckwalter Scholarship Assistance Fund, Karin Lynn Thum Fund, Edward Gaffey Fund, David Brumbaugh Cancer fund, Royersford Service Unit of the Salvation Army; the Chairman of the Royersford Park and Recreation Commission and the Royersford Community Nursing Service; the Secretary of the Royersford Borough Planning Commission and the Spring City American Legion Baseball Association; the Director of the Spring-Ford Education Foundation; and a member of Spring City American Legion Post #602 and other numerous community boards, associations and commissions. Ron was a Founder of the Royersford (now Spring-Ford) Area Youth Athletic League and served as Commissioner for 33 years. He also was the Founder and Commissioner of the Royersford (now Spring-Ford) Babe Ruth League. He was also the first Statistician for the Spring-Ford (Royersford) High School Football team and served in that role for over 55 years.
He is the beloved brother of Doris (nee Nettles) Evans of Voorhees, NJ and loving uncle of Carol Evans Saghirian and her husband Bob of Washington Twp., Gloucester Co., NJ and David A. Evans and his wife Elizabeth of Gibbsboro, NJ. He is also the loving great-uncle of Molly Saghirian Crellin of Arlington, MA, and Ashley Evans & Adam Evans both of Gibbsboro, NJ.
Friends may greet the family on Saturday, April 25 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Cattermole-Klotzbach Funeral Home, 600 Washington Street, Royersford, where a Celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 PM. Interment will be following the service at the Fernwood Cemetery. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family requests memorial donations to either the Royersford Free Public Library, the Spring-Ford Youth Athletic League or to the Royersford Area Community Chest.
